Are you considering the idea of hiring a coach but not sure it is worth the investment?
I don’t blame you! Coaching can be a big investment in your time and energy, as well as your pocketbook. When I’m faced with a big decision like this, I list the pros and cons and weigh my options.
I’ve listed 5 things that should definitely go on your “pro” list.
- You Have To Do Something Different
What you’ve been doing isn’t working! Change is hard. We get that. But if you don’t start doing something different, you are going to keep getting the same results. The same results aren’t making you happy or bringing your spouse closer to you. A coach can help you see what needs to change and hold you accountable to the goals you set.
- Panic and Fear Make You Vulnerable
If your marriage is stressed, chances are…you are having a lot of fear and panic. You want to do the right things but you aren’t sure what that is. You partner seems to be softening toward you one minute and then upset and distant the next. It is a confusing, scary time. A coach can help you manage your anxiety and put your emotions aside so you are logically focusing on the problem. You will stop doing impulsive things that damage the relationship and learn how to bring in positive feelings that help heal and nurture.
- It’s More Directive Than Marriage Therapy
A marriage coach tells you exactly what you need to do to save your marriage. Therapists are trained to listen to how you feel, help you see each other’s point of view and look for diagnosable mental illness or personality disorders. The one thing they are taught never to do is give advice. Coaches are trained to help you set goals and help you figure out the path to meeting those goals quickly and efficiently. Coaches aren’t afraid to tell it like it is and they will be quick to guide you when you are confused and unsure what to do next.
- Hiring a Coach is a Good Investment!
Every year, people spend thousands of dollars to make themselves look and feel better. Gym memberships, personal trainers, yoga, new clothes, sports activities…just to name a few. Why shouldn’t you invest in the most important relationship of your life? Marriage coaching can bring about greater personal and marital satisfaction and….even better….prevent a divorce! The average divorce in this country is $15,000 – $20,000!! Don’t believe me? Click here to read more. For many people, it costs more to get divorced than it did to get married.
- A Coach Works For YOUR Best Interests
Everyone needs someone to talk to. But who do you talk to when your marriage is in trouble? You and your spouse share many of the same friends and family. If you share marriage woes with common friends/family, they tend to take sides. Even worse, everyone has an opinion on what you should do and say. The problem is they aren’t marriage experts. The wrong advice may be well intentioned, but it is still the wrong advice. A coach doesn’t have a hidden agenda. They don’t take sides and they don’t hold grudges. Even better….they are experts and can help you restore a failing marriage.
